Multiple issues, I don't trust my data in these
I purchased four of these enclosures to use with a few extra Crucial M4 512 GB SSD drives I have. I tested all four of the enclosures, I tested with multiple drives, and I tested with multiple computers (I'm at IT guy). I had too many odd and frustrating issues with these enclosures that ended up returning them. Response speed was an issue for me. After installing a SSDs into these enclosures and plugging them into my computers for the first time, the initial detection took abnormal amount of time. Formatting the SSDs also took an abnormally long time when in these enclosures, especially for an SSD. Once finally set up (more on that in a bit) the file transfer speeds were fine enough. However when using another enclosure with the same exact SSDs, Windows would immediately recognize them when plugged in and perform quick formats very fast. Then come the actual "issues". One of the enclosures when plugged in, would not show up as a valid disk to Windows. Windows Device Manager would list it as a Disk, but it refused to register as a Disk under Windows Disk Management or Diskpart (therefore I couldn't initialize/partition/format). I ended up taking the SSD out of this enclosure, popping it a different brand, and then Windows could immediately see it. Once properly formatted with this other enclosure, I popped it back into this Sabrent one and after a long delay, Windows finally recognized it as a disk... Another one of these enclosures was detecting the SSD, but wouldn't let me initialize it from Disk Management. Like the example above, by putting the SSD in a different branded enclosure I was able to detect and successfully modify the drive as I saw fit. Once formatted using the other brand enclosure, if I popped the drive back in these Sabrent enclosures they would behave properly (after that aforementioned long delay). However, I shouldn't have to use another brands enclosure just to prepare a drive to be used with this enclosure. After a lot of time and work to finally get the four of these enclosures going, they did appear to be usable. However like most people, I planned to use these enclosures to house drives for my important data. Between the unusually slow initialization/access speeds, and the errors listed above I do not trust my data in these enclosures. A good enclosure should be fast and quirk free.
