I really want to like this product, but...
I recommend Wyze’s new door lock. It’s a superior product compared to August. It is able to sense my door opening without an additional attachment. It comes with Wifi without additional purchases.
UPDATE(11/9/2019): Moved to a townhome. Doorsense is useless because its a magnet and anything metal nearby screws it up (metal doorframe). Wifi connection has been unstable and useless. Need to look for a new lock now.
UPDATE(8/8/2018):
After recent firmware updates, the app and iOS widget have greatly improved in consistency and stability. Doorsense has also been much better at detecting my door being open/ajar/closed. My opinion of this lock is that it's "better" but no great, so I would rate this 3.5 stars.
For those who were wondering, this has been working in an apartment complex, through bluetooth connection.
At this point, the only decision between this and the pro version is that you need to decide if the extra cost of remote operation is worth it to you.

So here’s the deal. Be wary of all the 5 star free product reviews. I am an engineer, and my home contains smart hubs, bulbs, assistants, etc. I've owned this lock for about 2 weeks at this time of writing. YMMV.
Pros:
Easy to install. It took about 10 minutes. There are in-app instructions. Otherwise there is no physical manual.
Door sense came with the product which is a separate little device to determine if your door is actually closed or open.
All you need is a screwdriver.
I use iOS and the app tracks each user's activity with opening and closing the lock, along with when the door is opened and closed.
Cons:
Door sense is buggy. You will need to recalibrate your lock and door sense potentially many times. For me, the app kept erroring many times when attempting to save my calibration that will cause you to start the process all over.
You are able to set an auto lock timer with the lock. I set it to instant so that it would lock immediately when the door is closed. Unfortunately it would lock at the precise moment the door is JUST ABOUT 2 inches before closing which will cause your deadbolt to jam into the door frame. I had to change the timer to 30 seconds to prevent this. Otherwise, the auto lock does work as intended.
Here's the biggest problem. The whole purpose of a smart lock for my household is to make it easy for every one to come back home and to not have to fumble their keys around. The Bluetooth connection and location awareness of the lock is extremely buggy. I've come back home many times to stand at my door... locked. I stand there like a fool waiting. And waiting. And waiting. Then I have to either pull my keys out which defeats the purpose of the lock, or use the app to unlock the door which was also iffy at best. The times it did work (10%) it was great. But I can't trust such an inconsistent device to secure my home anymore.
Couple that with the requirement to buy an August Connect for remote access control, I do not think this product is worth the purchase. Maybe their pro version can be considered, but this one has left a bad impression.
