Sad
I will start off my saying I LOVE the original Hocus Pocus movie and book. I bought this book to see what the next generation brings to the classic Disney movie. This book is geared to the pre-teen/teen age., maybe 8-13 years. My hope going into this was that it was going to be the easy “light” read I was looking for in the Halloween season. I really love Halloween. The book picks up with Max and Allison’s daughter. Sounds great. Sadly, I couldn’t get past chapter two. There was more internal discussion about her being “hopeful” about a romantic relationship/crush on another girl in her class than about any Sanderson Sisters. As a mother of 4 daughters, I have read many teen books and love them. This one was pushing the same sex spirit more than any classic witch tales. While I don’t have a problem with that in general, it’s geared toward an age group that’s way too young. I sincerely wish I knew this going in. I never would have bought it in the first place. I wish I didn’t read as much as I did because it tarnished my love of the original, innocent, Hocus Pocus. It didn’t need the sexual twist. It is sitting on my bookshelf with a bookmark at chapter three and will collect dust there forever. If anyone wants my copy, you’re welcome to it.
