I am revising my five-star review to a one star. I am not sure if it is the ingredients or the manufacturing process, but something about this food has changed and it isn't good. I phoned the company a couple month's ago and received no information or effective assistance. I bought a different bag which was better than the prior bag, but something was still off and the next new bag is even worse. My dog used to love this food and now she's reluctantly eating it and has even refused to finish, which is unprecedented as she will eat anything. The appearance of the food itself used to have a slight sheen to it and it was very uniform, crumb-free, and otherwise looked appealing. For the last several months, the food -- in bags purchased on Amazon as well as from my local pet store -- have been dry and dull looking. The pieces are not uniform, and they are somewhat crumbly. I usually add a teaspoon of water, which did not change the texture in the past but now the food softens to the point of mush within less than a minute. The final straw is that from the very first meal from the newest bag I received from Amazon my dog's stool is significantly bigger. Even if whatever has changed is benign, the larger stool tells me she's not getting the nutritional benefit she should from the food. That, plus the fact but she no longer loves the food she's been eating consistently for over two years, means it's time for a change. I've cancelled my subscription to this food and will be changing as fast as possible. I don't blame Amazon because bags from my local store are the same. Very disappointed in Merrick.
