Formulaic Extra-Biblical Nonsense For Marriage
I have read as much as I could stomach of the book from a copy I borrowed as I did not wish to contribute funds to support Ms. Alexander. I have also read her blog. There is nothing remotely Christ-centered about the majority of what she writes. Granted, I am not her "target audience" as my marriage is not a source of angst or frustration in any way. Whenever I read and watch Ms. Alexander's behavior, I grieve in my spirit her apparent lack of vibrant relationship with both God and her husband. It is God's job, and God's alone to transform people and make them both loving and holy. I now pray daily for Ms. Alexander, that Jesus would do this in her life, because she seems bound and determined to impose her own personal misery on others and demand conformity to a list of criteria which are no where in Scripture - such as an admonition that women should not work. The book is filled with grammatical errors, such as the one in Lori's own comments in response to a review of the book, where she confuses "where read" with "were read" . There are formatting errors, including problems with the table of contents. Other reviewers have addressed these issues well. There are many people who disagree with Ms. Alexander who are kind, compassionate followers of Jesus and who have an active relationship with Jesus Christ and utilize better hermeneutics, yet Ms. Alexander cannot tolerate any dialogue that does not simply puppet her own thoughts. As an older woman who has been asked by my church to mentor others, I steer every single one of them away from this poison. To anyone who would follow her - I ask to first consider seriously the question of: do you believe that Ms. Alexander's life causes you to encounter the person of Jesus? Most heresies are born from isolating parts of verses, taking them out of context, and elevating them above the entirety of Scripture. This is what Lori does often. Add into that Ms. Alexander's tendency to employ copious amounts of logical fallacies, and especially arguments from silence and you have a recipe for continued "teachings" which are both heretical and pharisaical. Where the Bible is silent, there should be liberty. Christ came that we might be free. (cf to 2 Cor 3:17; Romans 6, and nearly all of Paul's writings as Mr. Alexander, Lori's husband has been quoted as saying "Jesus was wrong.") Let the Buyer beware - Lori Alexander's writings are something, but they are not Christian. There is a reason Lori is not allowed to teach this in her own church. I believe that Lori needs to take some time to see if she really believes the gospel. Maybe if she knew God's unconditional love in a deeply personal way, then she would be able to begin writing in a way that is about inviting others to experience God's love too.
