Huge fire hazard, do not buy, unless you want your house on fire
I bought this product a few months ago. I needed one of the bedrooms to be warmer than the rest of the house, as I have pets that require additional heat. Today, while cleaning the room, I wanted to move the heater, so I unplugged it. The cord was burning hot, and the outlet was burnt and melted in places. See photo posted with this review. That could have started a fire and burned the house down if I didn't catch it.
The cord of this heater is very flimsy, just as thin as that for a very low wattage item, such as a desktop lamp. That's very wrong. The heater is a high wattage item, so it should have a heavy duty cable.
I called Lasko, and they immediately tried to cover up with some complicated explanation that my outlet may not be able to withstand a high wattage item, hence the problem comes from my outlet. This is the biggest bull___t I ever heard. All household outlets are designed to withstand that type of wattage, and this heater was designed accordingly, without requiring any additional electrical work to install a special outlet, like a stove/oven would.
I was invited to send the item back, and told that the legal team will write to me with findings. The legal team??? It sounds awfully defensive and fishy. The guy also reassured me that the heater was designed and built based on USA standards. I have no doubt that they had to follow some rules when designing the product, but it seems to me, based on the flimsiness of the cord, that they manufactured it using the bottom margin of these standards. A good quality product that sucks so much power should have a cord that withstands the load.
Finally, I will not be deterred by the allegation that my outlet cannot withstand so much power drawing for extended periods of time. The 1500W are a maximum, expected to be achieved as an initial spike when the heater is turned on. The heater will not run that high for extended periods of times. Another bull___t explanation, designed to shut up customers who don't know the basics of electrical appliance consumption and power.
I will not purchase any of the Lasko products again.
