I would not recommend this book to anyone over the eighth grade. This is definitely a young adult novel not intended for adults, the characters are completely dull, unlikeable and borderline sociopathic. The way this family interacts with each other is completely not believable, even coming from a dysfunctional family perspective. Literally painful to read, I am in shock I even got through it! I only read to the end because I wanted to know what happened to Lydia. Sadly, we never find out. I kind of wish the entire family had drowned in the end, I’ve never read a book where I had no empathy and completely disliked every character in the book. And not in a riveting and interesting way like in Gone Girl for example. This author is completely amateur, how this book even got published - not to mention the stellar ratings- has me completely puzzled! I wish I could get back the hours of my life I wasted reading this book. Absolutely awful read!!
