Rosetta Stone Korean is terrible
I have been using Rosetta Stone Korean for almost two years while living in South Korea. I am a professor who speaks three languages besides English. I bought Rosetta Stone based on their advertising to learn a language like you did when you were a kid, which seemed compelling at the time.
However, the way the program is structured is nothing like "real life" because it has vague images denoting activities that could be one thing or another (Are they saying hello or goodbye? Why is that man standing with his hands over his head? Etc.). Additionally, the microphone doesn't "hear" you very well, so the speaking activities are a total disaster. Even my 6-year old daughter, who is completely fluent in Korean with no accent whatsoever can't pass a simple speaking test. Worst of all, the grammatical constructions are often wrong in Korean because there is no clear separation of singular and plural tenses, but Rosetta Stone acts like there are hard and fast rules. That is just one of many examples where they teach you Korean that people don't actually use. The problem is that Rosetta Stone has a one-size-fits-all template that doesn't deviate, and it just doesn't work for Korean.
Save your money. There are lots of online resources for learning Korean and the Seoul Global Center offers free Korean classes.
