★☆☆☆☆
Surprisingly lame, what a let down
Don't waist your time. Incredibly disappointed in Follett. One-sided socialist agenda, ripped off and repackaged stories and scenes from other well exposed books and movies with his under-developed characters inserted into the middle. I started to see some of this lazy writing in Winter of the World but he takes it to a whole new level in this book. Slams every single conservative figure during the period within the setting in the book without mercy. Often refers to Reagan as a racist. This book does not do Fall of Giants and Winter of the World justice, and is nowhere near the master class category of Pillars of the Earth or World Without End. If I were to make any recommendations to friends about this trilogy, I'd tell them to read Fall of Giants (excellent btw) and explain Winter of the World as being a decent sequel and leave it at that. What a disappointment. Signed, A long time Follett book fan
