Why are there B vitamins in a "calming" supplement?
I've had good results from lemon balm before, and the rest of the blend in the description sounded good, so I got Zen for calm and the other placebo pills this company offers, Mind. The first night I took these, I took the recommended 2 capsules of each Zen and Mind, and I was up until 4am with rapid heartbeat and anxious thoughts, even after taking sleeping pills. I assumed it was a fluke or just my anxiety but the same thing happened the next night too. Checking the labels more closely, I see that both Zen and Mind are full of B vitamins, which have a known stimulant effect in large doses. I understand the 20,000% of DV in Mind, since it's supposed to increase alertness and focus, but why the 800%, 700%, 400%, etc of different B vitamins in Zen? How is a stimulant going to increase calm? I know I should have read the labels better before buying but I don't understand why the other ingredients weren't listed in the description. Tl;dr: I take 1 of each capsule every morning instead of the recommended 2 of each (because I paid for these and I'm too stubborn to throw Zen in the trash, at least for a couple more days), and I drink a lot less caffeine now. If you're sensitive to B vitamins, maybe look for a different "calming" blend or else realize these might keep you up all night instead of settling you down. :(
