This system is not ready for primetime
It seems like this system has a lot of potential--it is supposed to have all the basic functionality and the price is right. But my experience has been really bad.
I bought the basic home security system and two additional contact sensors for the back doors to my house. The installation process was each for everything, until I got to the last contact sensor. It was super finicky and wouldn't work. I ended up spending about 2.5 hours on the phone with Ring's tech support. They were patient and friendly, but couldn't solve the problem. Ultimately, they offered to replace the sensor. That would be a good solution, except that they can't figure out how to delete/disconnect the defective sensor from my system. So the main brain of the system thinks there is a messed up sensor, which is causing problems for the whole system. That is, the broken sensor is ruining the entire setup.
My 2.5 hours on the phone with Ring's tech support was last Friday, and they told me that they'd have an engineer look into the issue and get back to me on Saturday or Monday. It is Tuesday night, and nobody has gotten back to me. The technical problem is not turning into a customer service problem.
To summarize, there was a defective sensor (hardware problem) that could not be easily fixed by replacing the hardware (because of a software problem), and they've haven't gotten back to me to resolve the issue (customer service problem). What's that saving about three strikes?
Ring is owned by Amazon, so I'm sure they will have the resources to eventually fix the bugs and have a reliable system. But that's not where things are now.
