fun drone... infuriating warranty support team.
I've held off on writing this review, hoping DJI would come through, but alas, they have not, and I've grown tired of speaking with their warranty and support teams. Here is a relatively brief recounting of my issue with their warranty team. -In July, my drone suffered a drifting malfunction that caused it to crash sideways into the side of my house. I sent the drone and controller in, and despite my repeated attempts at explaining to them that I witnessed the drone drift erratically sideways, they insisted the crash was pilot error, and the "resulting" malfunctions were not covered under warranty. After multiple discussions via email and phone, I ultimate gave up and payed the approximatley $150 repair fee. I received a replacement drone, and my original controller -The replacement drone suffered the exact same drifting malfunctions. I recorded video of this obvious malfunctioning behavior, which I have attached here as well. I sent the replacement drone and my original controller, back for review/repair, along with a lengthy explanation and the video linked above. -This time, I received a replacement controller, and on the packing sheet it was noted that there had been an issue with the control stick. On the first flight using the new controller, it is obvious that the drifting issue has been resolved. To anyone even halfway paying attention, it should be very obvious that the drifting issues were controller related and not aircraft related. Moreso, anyone with half a brain would also realize that a controller issue could not be the result of an aircraft crash. As such, I requested that DJI refund me the repair costs, as a non-crash related malfunction would be covered under warranty. -For the past 4 months, I've been back and forth with DJI support teams. Dozens of phone calls and emails explaining the situation to a support team member, who then communicates with the technical team, only to return a week later and parrot the same "I'm sorry but they found no evidence that the crash was caused by a malfunction"... No matter how many times I explained that it didn't matter what caused the crash, I payed to have a malfunction fixed, and the malfunction turned out to be with the controller, and obviously could not be the result of the crash. Every support agent I spoke with seemed to understand my plight, but the technical team (who apparently had the last say in the matter, and who I could not speak with directly) continued to resist my request to have my repair fee refunded. -At this point, I'm just fed up and done dealing with it. I've spent far more hours dealing with this than $150 was worth. I've mostly exhausted so much time simply out of principle, hoping they would eventually stand by their warranty. Anyway, I've enjoyed my mavic air, but if you choose to purchase one, understand that if you ever need warranty work performed, expect them do do everything they are able to point the finger at you as a pilot, even when their is a mountain of evidence to the contrary.
