Laptop is fine, but advertising misleading
Only had it a couple days, and it seems to be working ok. I didn't buy it for gaming, but wanted a performant system so I could do VM testing. I need both a lot of horsepower and RAM to do this. This is why 2 stars...
I got the 16GB option that says 1x16, with 2 slots in the description verbatim:
"Memory: 16GB (16G*1) DDR4 2400MHz 2 Sockets; Max Memory 32GB"
I think that's highly misleading if it ships with 2x8GB, which is how mine arrived.
The thinking was that there was one slot taken (1x16), leaving one available, meaning if you add another 16, you can get to the listed max of 32. I ordered a second 16GB DIMM to add to get to 32GB on the same day I bought this. I turned it over and saw to my dismay two DIMMs in place. This might not have been a problem had they advertised as such, and I'd have figured out a different option to buy.
Now I have 24, but it's:
(a) not what I wanted
(b) I'm out the $80-$90 for a DIMM and
(c) have an 8GB DIMM I can't really use for anything.
Even if I get another 16 DIMM, I could get to 32, but then I'd have 2x8's I can't use. All told, I'd have gone a different route had I known this.
An easy way to fix this for MSI would be to send me a 1x16GB DIMM (and if they want the 2x8's returned, including a paid shipping label and I'm happy to return those). I don't otherwise see another way to change my review to anything higher. Amazon and MSI have to get their product listings correct, especially on something that people tend to spend hours researching options and forking over a lot of money for the product.
