We bought a small. The actual shin guard is very small. It seems a little too skinny for my barely 3 year old (who is skinny himself). But we could have still made that work. The true problem is that the sock piece where the foot goes is sized for an adult. To put the shin guard on his shin, 4 inches hangs off his foot (see where my fingers are). Or if I pull up the sock all the way, the heel is halfway up his shin and the shin guard is over his knee.
