Bests & Worsts Reviews from Amazon

I don't often read someone else's opinion of books but I wish I had read between the lines on the mostly favorable reviews here. Granted, it was a mystery but I was totally shocked to be left hanging when it so abruptly ended. No problem...it's already forgotten and I won't be reading any more Ray Elkins "Thrillers." For some reason, I like cops/detectives to be a little more gritty than Ray Elkins. He actually doesn't come off as a cop. Though the author obviously wants to show how much he knows or researched about kyaks and cooking, too much time was spent on those details rather on the story and painting a picture for the reader. The characters were flat and the mystery, though it was definitely there, was not solved by the end of the book. A definite disappointment.
