Avoid this Toaster...in fact, avoid Cuisinart altogether
As others have reported, this toaster breaks all to quickly. Both latch knobs (the part you press down to lower the bread) broke much too soon. So, I took it apart to see whether I could fix them. It turns out that Cuisinart uses a thin piece of plastic to connect the latch knob's arm inside the toaster. Over time, the plastic becomes brittle from heating-cooling cycles. In other words, it appears that Cuisinart engineers the toaster to fail some time after the warrantee lapses. I had a similar issue with a Cuisinart coffee maker, so I think engineered-to-fail is a Cuisinart company goal.
