Beware. Beware.
Beware. My poor rating is not tied to the functionality of Nero 2014 but rather to the business ethics of a company that would load a $100 software package with a horrific piece of add on software, AVG Security Toolbar. Once installed AVG is close to impossible to uninstall. So if you install Nero 2014 Platinum be very careful when you click on the standard license acceptance. You could very easily, as I did and I'm sure others have, shoot yourself in the foot. The AVG Toolbar is part of the CD. See this link: [...]. The only exception I take with what Gadgetspeak says is they suggest that the AVG opt out is customer focused. Not from my standpoint. And once it installs it is an absolute bitch to remove. It totally hijacks your browsers and neither AVG's built-in "uninstaller" nor Windows can remove it. Both freeze up shortly into the uninstall process. It is both frustrating and unnerving, especially when you recall you paid $100 for this lousy experience.
During the install of Nero 2014 the AVG Toolbar hides. For me it didn't show up until a few days after I installed Nero. Then when it does show up it manifests itself as a task bar "pop up", seemingly a security update to an already installed application. That's insidious because pop ups like that are a fairly typical protocol for legitimate security updates. The AVG security toolbar to me is trojan; Nero facilitates that by including it in their Nero 2014 Platinum package and then obfuscates it in the license acceptance process; and most disturbingly, Nero can later say "Well, we alerted you. You could have opted out." The only way to remove AVG once installed is through a very complex and frustrating process of using a professional grade third party forced software uninstaller. I used Revo and recommend it. There are multiple links on this AVG problem on the web and some good step-by-step instructions on YouTube on how to use Revo to remove it. If I had known this problem before I purchased Nero 2014 I would not have. There are other choices. I did this to myself. You don't need to.
