Worthless machine - so disappointed - no resolution
Singer CG590 Commercial Grade Sewing Machine I sew for profession - up to 20 hours a week actual sewing. My children gifted me this new "commercial" machine for Christmas 2010. It has been broken and dysfunctional the entire time. I have probably been able to successfully use this machine less than 40 hours in two years time. The bobbin winder, when working, made loose, sloppy bobbins. Never completely wound. During the first week, after the 3rd bobbin, the mechanism broke. No local authorized service - only instruction was to mail the machine to the service center. Unacceptable! After paying for a reputable local serviceman to repair it, he advised that the construction was so shoddy that the repair would probably not last. It was broken again after only a few bobbins. The auto needle threader was broken after a few attempted uses. The machine has never maintained proper tension and often bird-nests under the fabric. All pressure feet and accessories are cheap and do not function well. In spite of being called "commercial", it is very light on bottom and bounces during all sewing except for very, very slow. Plastic parts are painted with a "metal" look finish - pure deception. The quality of work produced by this machine is embarrassing. Poor lighting, plastic pedal. Attempts to resolve through Singer Co. customer service are ridiculous. While the ladies answering calls are sweet - they are powerless to resolve this LEMON situation. The wait time on phone is 30 minutes to 1 hour - behind 20 other callers. I am disappointed that my children wasted hard-earned money relying on the reputation of the Singer name.
