Maggots in spoon. Do NOT Buy!
We purchased these looking to replace some of our older wooden spoons. Upon opening the packaging they all looked great. We noticed a couple of the spoons had smaller (in length) handles than other making it hard to use if you have large hands or working with some cookware. Willing to put that aside, we hand washed & dried them and put them in our canister on the counter for use later. One day I was putting some away and noticed the strainer spoon had something stuck in some of the holes. At first it looked like rice but was skeptical considering we wouldn’t have used that spoon for anything with rice. My husband and I realized we hadn’t used that spoon at all so there’s no reason why is should be dirty. After taking a toothpick to remove what was inside I discovered it was MAGGOTS! They weren’t present on any other of the items nor do we have an issue with maggots. I looked back on reviews and saw one review that said there was mold growing inside, and at a glance this looks like mold in some areas but it most likely is the nest harvesting the maggots, just as it is for the other reviewer (they just caught it sooner before the larvae became present). I don’t know why this happened to this item but based on other reviews and how it’s constructed the holes are unfinished and washing them may lead to excess moisture that can’t be properly drained. We will NOT be using this spoon and I’m hesitant to use the others now.
