Very disappointing
I don't understand how somebody could legitimately rate this over 3 stars. Please read on. For reference this is my 4th hand mixer and 4th brand. I frequently use hand mixers weekly for numerous tasks and upgrade/new unit every other year donating the previous model. Price ranges between $25-$125. I'll start off with the fact that the mechanical interface between the beaters and the head unit is PLASTIC, it is NOT METAL. There is a reason the manufacture doesn't state this, it's cheap and it's the weak link. Sure, it'll function for most of your home tasks. Do you picture mixing/needing 1 pound loaves of bread (3 3/4 cups flour) weekly with these dough hooks? Big batches of cookies dough? This system will wear and my experience says it won't last long. Doing box cake mixes, mixing pudding? No problem, go nuts. Controls are very functional and easily controlled with one hand. The forward motor aids in good balance and control. The slow start is nice. The speeds of this mixer are very slooowww. The turbo is so slow I actually had thought the unit to be defective. There's literally dozens of complaints on this issue, I'm not alone. Undoubtedly it would take several minutes to whip egg whites to a peak in "turbo" no less. Given a copper bowl and a good balloon whisk I'd throw down a challenge against this mixer. I couldn't imagine trying to properly cream butter and sugar with this. The beaters and dough hooks I received are crooked. The beaters at "high" make an audible ticking sound and wobble. Dough hooks wobble. You can visually see how the metal shaft was molded crooked into the beater's plastic spline. This coupled with the plastic interface between the shaft and the power head is going to cause nothing but problems. As it wears it will get worse. Flopping like a willow in the wind. At this price point I EXPECTED MUCH BETTER QUALITY. German in name but NOT German built. I'll leave it at that. Most I'm sure are mystified by the marketing claim of the magical high wattage. With that I'll say given torque (the mixing power) and speed being equal, AC motors burn high wattage (electricity) where as a DC motors can easily produce identical results with +30% less electrical consumption in a smaller package. BRAUN USES AN AC MOTOR. Also one of the reasons the largest manufacture of mixers uses DC motors. In good conscience I could never recommend this to someone as a high end, reliable hand mixer. Nice unit, but at the price point this has nothing on $25 economy hand mixer at easily 1/3 the price.
