unreasonable software permissions
During set up of the phone app which is the center of all the smart features. You are required to set up a I-robot account. You next are required to provide your home router password to the phone app (i-robot servers) so that the robot will be allowed to connect. The app also requires the location in the phone to be turned on. giving this permission the app connects with the robot and I can start using it. Removing the permission crashes the app and losses the robot. I emailed I-robot 3 times and called twice trying to understand what any legitimate purpose of collecting the location information of phone might be. They attempted to tell me it was used to find the robot if it got lost (my house isn't that big). Hang on--what does knowing where the phone is have to do with finding the robot? After discussing it further, I learn the app has a lost robot feature that you command the robot to play a tone so you can go find it. So that was a lie. Next I was told that the location is needed to know what time zone the robot is in so the scheduling features will work correctly. OK so if travel to the other side of the country or world for work or pleasure the robot will preform its schedule based on were the phone currently is? I am told no, the robot schedule will not change. So that also was a lie. Bottom line is collecting location information of the phone (me) thru out the day and night 24/7 has nothing to do with the operation of the app or robot. It's data to use and sell Guess i'm old school, not willing to pay premium money for the device and be tracked 24/7. never used it and sent it back.
