I'm not exactly sure who thought it was a good idea to use PLASTIC CLIPS to hold together a very highly heated surface, but obviously it must be some kind of design flaw. Like a reviewer before me, I took mine out of the box on Christmas morning to heat it up for the first time, only to find the plastic clips holding in the griddle plates literally just melted away after a few minutes! Who thought that was a good idea? Surely they could have been made of silicone or metal or something other than what is obviously very poorly made plastic. I wouldn't recommend this to *anyone*. I traded it in for the Delonghi Panini Press and am totally satisfied. I'm very surprised at Cuisinart. They usually make such good products!
