I WANT to love this thing. When it works, it is AMAZING. It is great on dog hair and I use my actual vacuum much less. My entryway has never looked better. The only problem is that it has these things called “cliff sensors” that detect dark areas and makes it go in reverse to avoid going over a “cliff” like stairs. But these sensors see anything that is black or very dark as potential cliffs and won’t go. I didn’t know about this when I purchased it, but reading the forums, this is a known problem. I have no need to use this upstairs, only downstairs. So there are no real “cliffs” I have to worry about. I noticed it would get stuck EVERY TIME under my dining room table. There is a black design in my area rug there. It refuses to clean the corners of my living room area rug, but I can live with that. But it literally gets stuck each day. I get a notification on my phone say “Roomba is stuck near a cliff and needs assistance.” Since I am not home, it just ends the mission there. Sometimes 5 min into the clean, sometimes 15 min, occasionally 30 min. But it always gets stuck. So to the forums I go!! I read about covering the sensors (this model has five around the front and sides) with paper. Didn’t work. I read about using the shiny side of tin foil. Didn’t work. I ready about covering with various types of tape. None worked. I finally found a partial solution: clear packing tape on white paper and tape THAT to the sensor. It tricked it for about a week (the best week ever!!!! Floors sooooo clean!!), but those pieces of paper get dirty and need to be replaced and I can’t get that trick to work again. So, the last remaining solution is to take the unit apart and disconnect the sensors from the motherboard. Not an easy task. And no doubt will void the warranty. It is 2017, iRobot!!! This has been an issues for a decade—-FIGURE IT OUT!!!!
