BUYER BEWARE WITH THESE DEFERRED INTEREST DEALS
I finally was able to talk to a person at GE capitol...it took almost 40 minutes to get them on the line...here is what I learned.
When you have several different purchases on your account and some are deferred interest deals they offered to get you to buy, there really is no way to direct your payment to those deferred interest purchases before the other non deferred purchases are paid down.
The story I got was that a federal law states that each payment needs to go to the purchases with the highest interest to the consumer. That would be the non deferred interest purchases....The deferred intrest purchases wont be paid down at all until 1)all the other purchases on your account are paid or 2) It's 60 days before the end of your promotion... so for the last 60 days before you get slammed with all that interest, your payments will start to pay those charges down. So your really not getting 6 months or a year deferred interest...you will get that only if you buy nothing else with the card...What we are getting in fact is 60 days to pay for these purchases before they slam you with 1 year or 6 months worth of the accrued intrest. When I asked them where this is posted or written for the consumer to see, he said it's not. So there you go....you would do much better if you are going to carry a balance just to use your regular bank card, so you can at least talk to a person with out having to deal with GE capitols ridicules phone system.
Oh and if your having trouble understanding the "agent" as they like to be called at GE capitol, thats ok, very few seem to speak english very well, just when and if you finally get someone on the line, ask for a supervisor, they seem to speak english just fine.
