Let go of your Skepticism
I was skeptical about reading this book at first. My views tend to trend more towards the middle, in general, and in the views of Rush that makes me a Marxist, Fascist, err, or Scientologist I think. I threw caution to the wind and gave Rush another chance. I figured if I could forgive Mao and Stalin for being "grumpy", then surely reading through a children's book written by Rush would be a cakewalk. In order to properly read this book you must put aside some silly preconceived notions. One being the skepticism of the book's author. For example ignore this quote, contained in this "none politically" motivated book, ""The true story of Thanksgiving is how socialism failed. With all the great expectations and high hopes, it failed. And self-reliance, rugged individualism, free enterprise, whatever you call it, resulted in prosperity that they never dreamed of". Yes, Socialism failed. We must forget the fact that socialism, as a political concept, wasn't developed until about 200 years after the voyage of the mayflower. That would be putting facts in the way of history. This problem is easily solved by the presence of a time traveling horse called Liberty. We must also forget that the success of the Pilgrims had little to do with "capitalism" and more to do with the hard work motivated by escaping religious persecution, and a radical, mercantile system. We must believe in the magic horse, and realize that it was capitalism that led the Pilgrims to share a feast with their Native American neighbors, that had been all but wiped out by European diseases. Once I let go of these silly notions, my heart was filled with the joy of Rush's story telling abilities. I feel born again, new, and whole. How could I have been wrong all of these years?
