The film is a cop-out, throwing out multiple ideas that mask the true problem
The film makes an important point in the beginning -- the global economy is powered by oil, gas and coal. So how do we begin to unwind that system and replace it with a sustainable future? The film doesn't answer this question. Instead, we're presented with short takes of multiple talking heads throwing out the idea the humans are hard wired for pleasure and therefore consume too much. In the final few minutes, the very wealthy Jeff Bridges lectures the audience about our wanton consumerism, despite the fact that 40% of Americans now live in poverty. I have a better idea. Since 100 multinational corporations produce 60% of the carbon emissions that cause global warming, why doesn't the government stop paying these companies billions in subsidies and instead spend that money re-tooling communities for wind and solar? Why not train people to build and maintain this new power grid thereby helping people out of poverty? Why not start a program similar to the WPA to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure and replant our forests? Why not heavily tax the 2,208 billionaires in the world to educate children around the globe (who will be hit the hardest by rising temperatures) and prepare them for the climate catastrophe that is unfolding? This film is a sinister attempt to blame the victims while letting the true perpetrators of the climate crisis off the hook.
