Typical silicone is usually a fairly safe bet. But this enema kit has a chemical perfume smell embedded into the silicone. It's not as strong as the enema bag I purchased for $10 less, but make no mistake, it's there. Medical grade, food grade, FDA silicon should have zero scent - not chemical and certainly not perfume. Cheap silicone contains chemicals that are toxic and they smell. (FYI - EU food grade silicone is the safest.) Typically, when perfumes are added its only to mask other chemicals. This is becoming a favorite trick of products made in China with cheaper chemicals, so you might want to watch for this. Chemical perfumes are among the most toxic chemicals in use today - there is no oversight and none have been tested for toxicity as individual chemicals much less when combined with dozens, sometimes hundreds, of other chemicals, as is the case with the manufacturing of these perfumes. I'm a nutritionist of about 35 years and I'm not willing to risk the acid in the coffee leaching whatever chemical perfumes have been added to this bag - not to mention the potential chemicals in the low grade silicone that required masking with perfume in the first place. Coffee enemas bypass the protected digestion of the gut so any toxic chemicals can be released quickly into the vascular system through enemas. Some of the other reviews mentioned "no chemical smell". Did they not smell chemicals because they were simply covered up by perfume? And did they not realized that these too are chemicals? I'm returning my 2nd silicone bag in a week. I've decided to go with glass because the other alternative, stainless steel, can leach nickel and chromium into the coffee (coffee is around 5 pH which is acidic enough). I found a fairly decent priced one that looks promising, just search for Reverse Coffee Company glass enema kit. Right now it's about $55. (I have no affiliation with this company, if in doubt check my 20 year history of reviews.) For some, enemas are a serious health matter so I hope this is helpful.
