I really, really want to love this fan. It's looks great in our home which was originally built in the 40's and recently remodeled with a blend of vintage and modern finishes, just like this fan. It's small enough to not be obnoxious and moves air around a room quite nicely, which is very important when living in a home without AC during the few days we really need it here in Seatle. Unfortunately, the motor on this fan is one of the cheapest I have ever come across. After encountering an odd higher pitched grinding or rubbing noise after about two weeks of use, I pulled the rear cover off of the unit and discovered that the field poles, the wound copper wire which transmits the charge to the magnetic rotors and cause the fan to spin, are wound around cheap white plastic fittings which had deformed as the wire heated and cooled with use. There was still a little bit of play in the rotors and after reassembly, the fan was quite again, for about a week. And what started as an intermittent inconvenience is now a constant cacophony. These plastic pieces are now pinching the rotors causing them to rub against the plastic as they turn and emit a constant, unpleasant sound. And that's saying a lot as I sleep with a fan running specifically for the white noise. To make matters worse, this really did not manifest itself right away so now I am past the return date and can't get a replacement for this defective unit. I should have sent it back at the first sign of trouble.
