★★☆☆☆
Not for creative people
First let me say that I own both the Silhouette SD and now the Cricut explore air. I have to say that the Cricut cutter itself is far superior to my SD (Silhouette has come out with two new cutters since the SD). It is quieter and very accurate with its cuts so I am very impressed in that department. I also am really pleased with their markers and recommend them to everyone. However, if you are in anyway creative (which you probably are if you are considering buying a machine) I would not recommend buying the Cricut Explore air. The software is not set up for people to create their own items, it is set up for you to make their stuff that you can buy from them. I have tried to bring in files purchased from other places (that work just fine with my Silhouette) and have had nothing but trouble with them in design space. One example of it's poor design is; If an svg is only line art and does not have a fill color then it fills all the pieces with black. When you are bringing in a detailed svg with many parts it just comes in as a black blob. Silhouette is coming out with the Curio this fall and if it cuts as well as the explore air and they keep their far superior software then I believe it will be on the top of the market.
