★★☆☆☆
Done with this author.
I'm done with this author. ***Spoilers Ahead***** The writing is just not what I'd expect. The story is a good try, but getting there didn't work for me. I felt like they were trying to knit together Silence of the Lambs and a few Criminal Minds episodes. Mackenzie White is half way through the FBI Academy (living in her own apartment and picking and choosing classes like she's going to college, mind you) when she gets asked to help on a new case. Because it has similarities to a case she cracked when she worked in Nebraska. However, the author failed to provide ANY similarities to the other case, other than people were dead. And, since ALL of the victims had some sort of door to door job, Mackenzie is the ONLY one who can figure out that that is important? Are you kidding me? Again, trying to make a strong female lead be indispensable by making everyone else stupid. I feel like the writer had an idea for a story, but got stuck filling in the details and had to come up with SOMETHING to make her smarter than everyone else. Except that something was a detail my 5 year old niece could have figured out. And if the FBI is so worried about her working when she is only half way through the academy, why on earth would they yank her out of classes only to give her a hard time about it? The law enforcement aspects of the books this author writes are just too unrealistic. It's clear the author knows nothing about how law enforcement works, how academies work, how the FBI works. Very annoying. The FBI crime scene people go over a crime scene, yet Mackenzie can always find something they missed. The profilers are looking at the case, yet she is also the only one who can figure out what appears to be a very basic profile. Just stop. You can have a strong, female lead without making everyone else be so inept that she is the ONLY one who can solve anything.
