5ghz Failed After 2 Weeks of Use
I bought this sucker because I'm a huge fan of TP Link. I've used their products for years. When I got this router, I really liked it. Ease of installation, advanced features were pretty nice. I use OOMA for phone, I have dedicated servers set up, I use mac-address static routing, etc... So, I know a little about networking. We have a couple of gaming consoles, multiple computers, tablets, phones, a couple of smart tvs, etc... I also have the OOMA for home phone, as stated before. So, I have several devices. When I purchased this router I made the decision to go full wireless at home. I previously had wired LAN all pc's, but just got tired of having to troubleshoot (rarely) and wanted to avoid the (future) installation of more wire. Also, I'm still use CAT5e so the wireless nowadays is actually faster than my LAN. So, I decided to just buy some PCI-e Wireless Adapters (also tp-link) for all my desktops and just go full wireless. But, I knew I needed a up-to-date/faster router that could handle higher speed and multiple clients. Therefore, I purchase the TP-Link Archer AC1900 Smart WiFi Router (Archer C9). This router worked great...for 2 weeks. Now, when I say it worked for 2 weeks, I mean to say that the 5ghz "chip" worked for 2 weeks before dying. I mean it just...stopped... working. It stopped producing a signal. I have my pc about 5 feet from it with open air between. No interference, no external issues whatsoever. The 5ghz just stopped working. I troubleshooted for about 16 hours, rechecking all variables, researching internet forums...just trying to discover the issue. I updated firmware to latest version (before having issues..worked fine after...for awhile), reset to factory defaults, etc... Nothing worked. You know why nothing worked? BECAUSE THE 5GHZ CRAPPED OUT AND DIED. No user error, people. It just died from traffic use. After having these issues, I sent for a replacement. I received replacement, updated firmware, entered in ALL my information and setup. BAM! Running sweet again on 5ghz. This time, though, I placed the majority of my devices on the 2ghz, hoping to avoid "melting" the 5ghz "chip". 12 days later, same issue. I woke up this morning only to find the same freaking problem. 5ghz is dying. To make a long story short, this device is flawed. It's a design flaw with the 5ghz hardware. I believe that it gets overheated by all the large information exchange and just can't dissipate the heat until it just fails. No amount of replacing will help with this issue. This is why I've decided to go with a different brand, hoping that their product is better-designed. Just a quick note: The rest of the router aside from the 5ghz works flawlessly. The 2ghz I couldn't be happier with. The installation, setup, features, etc.. of this router are great. However, I need the 5ghz to work as well. I didn't pay 100 bucks for a 2ghz router. I paid for a 5ghz router and I want it to work and last.
