★☆☆☆☆
Left a lot to be desired.
I found this book to read like a long book report. The author claims to intend to draw connections between the written works of author Anne Perry and her real-life experiences as a convicted murderer. In order to do so, each book that Perry has written is summarized and occasionally a line is thrown in to highlight how Perry's experiences is connected to the work. The book touches very little on the murder, spoils the plots of all the books, and overwhelms the reader with the details about her writing career. The author wanted to show Perry in a different light than most media has presented her, and she is successful at that. I do see her as a woman who made a (big) mistake as a child and has overcome it. But Drayton also spoiled all Perry's work for me, so I feel that I am unlikely to bother to read her work. If you want the details of the murder and trial, this is not the place to find them. But with that said, I don't think the detailed story has ever been shared by Perry. If you want to know how a murderess manages to live near 4 decades undercover but out in the open, you'll be left unsatisfied. If you want a summary of the complete works of Perry, this is it...with a whole lot of detail about the publishing industry thrown in.
