★★☆☆☆
Ditto the other reviewers. The new Margot falls flat.
It's not that Vanessa David's Margot isn't cool or that she's a bad actress. It's just that we all fell in love with Micky Sébastian's Margot and we miss her.
But it isn't just a new actress playing Margot. They completely changed the character. She's younger but less fun. She no longer has a nun friend who works in an ancient archives in the basement who gets her information no one else can access. She's no longer bicycle-powered (the new Margot drives her own car!). We never see her at home in her charming, quirky apartment anymore; she's always at the office. And she mentioned her lack of family once in passing. You know, the whole reason she's a genealogist? The writers seem to have forgotten that.
If Micky Sébastian couldn't be tempted back for a second season, they should have "hired" a new genealogist at the police station and given her a different name and background. As it is, the new Margot is completely different and there doesn't seem to be any reason why except that the writers got lazy.
In addition, boss Stavros has turned into a minor character, Madame le Procureur dresses like she's a colourblind pimp, and Arthur has gone from being a playboy to lame in the extreme. Only Garnier is still mostly the same. Did they stop paying their writing staff or something?
Also every episode this season seems to be entirely about women who say they have no children, but are hiding a secret child in their past, which devastates them. It's getting kind of worn out as a theme. And it is beginning to smell like some agenda vehicle for people who cannot imagine women living happy lives without kids.
