★★☆☆☆
An expensive mistake for me.
I read all the glowing reviews on other sites and checked out the machine at a local store before I purchased. Pros: it is fast and will probably last a long time. The dicing kit, although tough to clean and a bit awkward (be careful, it is sharp), works GREAT! I am looking forward to the complementary dicing blades when they eventually arrive (be sure to order when you register your machine via the Breville website before mid-Jan 2018 if you purchase!). There is very little waste in the machine itself after processing. Cons: I bought for french fries. DOES NOT WORK for that - at least not to my family's visual preference. They are curved, and I'm back to doing that by hand again. The machine is so large and heavy it must stay out on counter. I had to rearrange my entire kitchen for this. The two storage compartments (plus the complementary dicing blades out of stock until after Jan 2018) required me to rearrange an entire cabinet as well. Complex storage for dicing kit/hard to put back in original locations so that it will fit under the main blade storage properly. Want to just use the smaller bowl? You CAN'T use it without the larger one, and since the larger one also gets dirty, you have to wash both. Love the idea of being able to adjust the size of slices I make, but I need wider than is possible for the roasted vegetables I make. I have to cut longer vegetables (eggplant, zucchini, summer squash, potatoes) to fit in the machine. I now have to trim by hand to make them fit in the machine, even with the wider chute. Peeler function wastes significant amounts (in my opinion), and I have to clean too much afterward to make it worth it. I make my own tahini (toasted sesame seeds and olive oil), but this machine makes it very grainy instead of a smooth paste. In addition, since the blade doesn't sit flush to the bottom of the bowl, some seeds get stuck underneath and always remained unprocessed. There are many crevices and pieces - and therefore places for the bowl and chute to get dirty. I definitely spend more time cleaning this than in any other food processor I've ever owned, and confess that I've come to dread having to use it because of the cleanup involved - and I use it about 5-6 times a week. I loved the idea of the storage bins and two sized bowls, but they are more trouble than they're worth. Overall, even though I was thrilled to be able to purchase this, it did not live up to the hype or my perhaps unrealistic expectations. I'm not the type to return things, and will make the most of it that I can. I hope this review helps other think long and hard about this expensive purchase. Dec 6 2017 Update: I still am only giving this 2 stars after of month of almost daily use. I almost gave it away out of frustration, trying to put all the accessories back in their proper places. I have to fiddle with it each time (and often have to deposit $ in the swear jar afterward), but I have figured it out! 1. Dicing blade (make sure it is clean - food particles often get stuck in it!) - put arrow pointing up, facing spindle for peeler. It will still rock and seem wrong, but it is correct! 2. Safety cover goes on top of dicing blade. 3. Dicing disc, with its own safety cover and the thing with no name or discernible purpose other than storage (circular with 6 spokes) on top of the dicing blade's safety cover. I put the dicing distributor on top of the dicing disc as well. 4. You're almost done! PEELER is tricky until you notice there is an arrow on the peeler. Point its arrow toward the arrow on the storage container. Voila! You should now be able to put the larger storage container correctly on top! Hope this helps someone else!
