★☆☆☆☆
Don't waste your time with this one.
SPOILER ALERT - This author has no knowledge of police procedure, firearms, or wound ballistics. The entire police force engages in unprofessional conduct that might have been tolerated 20 years ago, but not today. The story line is simply unbelievable. Other than one comment about about not contaminating the crime scene, there is no evidence of proper procedures followed, with the detective handling the corpse and no mention of a medical examiner. In a life threatening situation, Avery shoots to "graze" and the bad guy, having been hit in the shoulder and leg, goes down bleeding profusely, and the next day is at the station being questioned. Right. Then it gets really bizarre - Avery, before becoming a cop, had been a defense attorney who successfully defended a serial killer, who immediately killed again. So Avery, with her new case, decides she needs to interview the previous serial killer who's in prison. Why? But before she does, she visits the family of the jailed killer's last victim (who hate her for getting the guy off so he could kill their daughter) to ask their permission! What kind of drugs was the author on? That occurred just past 40% of the book. At that point I'd had enough and deleted it from my Kindle account. The only good thing about it was that it's currently free.
