Get the upgrade pricing if you really need this
Adobe has buried the fact that you can upgrade your existing copy of Lightroom for about half the cost of a new copy. You can't even get the upgrade without going to their site, and even when you go there they push the subscription option and hide the purchase option. When you find the option to purchase, just choose "upgrade" instead of "full".
But this version is hardly an upgrade. There are plenty of stand alone editors that offer more options in making HDR images or stitching together panoramas. These are just throwaway features cluttering Lightroom. Adobe was apparently desperate to find something to market: their sole motivation in moving to version 6 is to push everyone to pay them perpetually. It's not enough for them to overprice their software--they are so greedy they don't even want to sell you a copy any more. They want you to pay every month for the rest of your life to use it.
The only other new feature is the use of the graphics co-processor to speed things up. However, Lightroom runs just fine as it is. I never hit an issue with Lightroom 5 freezing up or running slowly on my MacBook Pro (3 years old now).
So, skip the lifelong Adobe tax and skip this version. But if you need it then hunt down the upgrade that Adobe is trying to hide from you.
