I was super excited to find this but really bummed with what I got...
I lived in Morocco when I was a kid and Moroccan Mint tea has been my favorite drink - both because it's delicious and because it stirs up wonderful memories.
I was given a mint bush cutting ("actual Moroccan Mint" unlike this tea) that came from Morocco and has given me amazing tea.
Because I always miss it during the winter, I thought I'd look for tea bags and was so stoked when I saw this product (I actually bought two of the 100ct. bags) because:
1. "Moroccan Mint"
2. Organic/Non-GMO
3. Eco-conscious tea bags and packaging.
4. 100 tea bags
Yay! Until I opened it...
I thought it smelled off -- but figured it might just be due to squeezing 100 tea bags in the package or because it was dried mint vs. my fresh mint -- so I happily brewed my first cup right away. When I took a sip I knew immediately that it was wrong...
I inspected the packaging for 𝗪𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗦:
𝙏𝙃𝙄𝙎 is mixed with green tea (no biggie because I mix my fresh mint with black or green tea during the day) and Moroccan "Maghrebi" is made with mint and Chinese "gunpowder" green tea.
𝘽𝙐𝙏...
𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗢𝗖𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗧 = *𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗧
𝙏𝙃𝙄𝙎 𝙏𝙀𝘼 =*𝙋𝙀𝙋𝙋𝙀𝙍𝙈𝙄𝙉𝙏😧
*𝗣𝗘𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗧 (40% menthol) 𝗶𝘀 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹
*𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗧(<1% menthol) 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿
𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀.
If I wanted Peppermint from the US I could go to the grocery store 5mins away.
And while I don't mind the added green tea (and the caffeine in it), people who are expecting an herbal mint tea 𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 for in the evening or to give kids should be aware.
Don't get me wrong, this is a really nice tea and the packaging is great. But it's not spearmint, it's not Moroccan, and it's not what I was expecting.
I really feel like it was a bait and switch with the marketing... A Giant "MOROCCAN MINT" compared to tiny ingredient list. And saying, "It is 'bagged' in California" is even more misleading as people will assume that loose tea FROM MOROCCO is then put into eco-friendly tea bags.
