★★☆☆☆
Not horrible, but far from perfect...
Is the case sturdy?
It is. The quality and built of the case is right on the money. It does not feel or look cheap, quite the opposite, I find this case to be aesthetically pleasing.
Does this add a significant amount of weight to the kindle?
YES! This will more than double the weight - do not get this case if one of the things you admire about the kindle is its light weight.
Does the camera app go on automatically if you slide up the kindle?
Yes (with some exceptions). Unless your kindle is locked (with a password), or you are within [some] app, the camera starts up when you slide the unit up.
Does the case block any buttons or ports?
The power port and headphone jack are always and easily accessible. When the cover is in origami 'stand' mode, the volume and power buttons are also accessible, HOWEVER, when you flip back the cover flat against the back of the Kindle (for example, when you want to hold it in your hand) the volume and the power button are both blocked. I find this extremely annoying and consider a poor design choice.
Does this case fit the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9?
Yes it does, however I would not call it a perfect fit. There is a bit of room that is left on the sides in which the unit can (but usually doesn't) wobble. (This might be done intentionally to allow the unit to easily slide up to reveal the rear camera.)
Does the Kindle fall out of the case easily?
No, not easily, but remember it is held in magnetically, so if you hold the cover and give it a moderate shake, the kindle will fall right out (DO NOT TRY SHAKING IT unless you have something to cushion the kindle if it falls).
Bottom Line:
I do not recommend this case. I am currently looking for an alternative, and when I find a possible match, I will most likely return this case.
UPDATE: If you use the kindle primarily in 'stand mode'(i.e. hands free) the weight and blocked buttons should not be an issue for you (thank you to 'Sheri in Reho' for pointing that out.) But for those that value light weight and tend to hold the kindle in your hands more often than not, my verdict still stands.
