This Ring Video Doorbell was purchased as a certified refurbished item. The installation process was straightforward and easy. I like the fact that you can choose to wire the Ring using the existing doorbell wiring, or be completely wireless if you are willing to recharge it regularly. On to the problem that I experienced: Unfortunately, the video quality was extremely poor. The video was extremely blocky and pixellated. Ring support was helpful and friendly, but going through the troubleshooting process with them took too long. I probably spent close to 90 minutes on the phone with them. First, I verified that internet connectivity was fine, and download/upload speeds were significantly more than sufficient for good video. I then gave them shared access, and they could immediately agreed that the video was poor. I cleaned the lens and made sure there was no plastic film on it. After involving a second-level expert, they determined that the doorbell was defective. However, since this unit was refurbished, it had previously been registered and returned by someone else, and was showing to be out of warranty, and no indication that it had been refurbished and with a new warranty. Normally, if the unit is in warranty, Ring support can directly replace it. Since their system shows it was out of warranty, Ring support said they could not directly replace the unit and advised that I return it to Amazon. Fortunately, I was just within the return period, so I returned it to Amazon. Also, when I had tried to register for the 30-day free Ring Protect Trial, the system said it was expired. I later received an email that the Trial had been extended for 5 days, but by then the unit was already packed and sent back to Amazon. In this case, it seems that the certified refurbished process wasn't very thorough. The unit was still defective, and did not have the information updated to show that it is refurbished with a new warranty. If you purchase a certified refurbished unit, make sure you install and check that it is working well before the end of the Amazon return period. I decided not to buy another Ring, at least for now. I'm going to spend some time looking at other options.
