Almost killed my cat.
My cat is my life. So when he got a bad case of the fleas, i was ready to do anything it took. I had to Have him shaved (He's a Himalayan) and bathed and the dried blood and dirt was terrible.
Since he has access to anywhere he wants to go, I didnt know how to start addressing fleas in the house, but a few drops once a month (that killed 3 of the 4 stages of fleas) would be the kindest way to go (as my indoor cat hates collars, and he overgrooms, so i didnt want him to ingest so much flea powder).
Within 24 hours after the drops, he started hypersalivating. This was listed as a rather common side effect, so i wasnt too worried. I just left the sink on low so he could drink when he got thirsty.
The next day, he had poor balance on his back legs, and was extremely lethargic (he always gets up to greet me when I come home. He couldn't even lift his head to acknowledge me when I came home).
Needless to say, I was beginning to freak out. I called the vet and made an appointment for the next day (3 days since I gave him the drops).
Since i free feed my cat, and he undereats due to trauma as a kitten (he is 14 years old), i didnt notice that he wasn't eating until 48 hours later.
Thankfully, the vet appointment was in the morning so I was optimistic.
After blood tests, parasite tests, and an anti-salivation AND saline shot, we gave him antibiotics and he began to look and act better. Within the second day of antibiotics, he was at 80%.
Several days later, i was still finding fleas and larvae all over him, so i waited a week and then gave him a flea bath in the shower.
For the end of my story, he is now at 100% and is just as sweet and loving as before.
I now feed him as much wet cat food as he will eat - he seems to like it. The fleas also seem to not be a problem anymore, so I'm not sure if it was the drops or the second flea bath that did it.
