Buy these at your own peril! I have owned five of these for a couple years and every 3-4 months one will have a false alarm. I had one occur last night and it finally prompted me to write this review. The false alarms usually happen in the dead of night, around 2-4am. After researching, the BRK web site mentions false alarms due to quick changes in temperature or humidity. Living in Southern California, I tend to turn off the HVAC before going to bed. That means the indoor temperature can drop 15-20 degrees with a proportional change in humidity. If these are hard wired, every alarm in the house will sound for 30 seconds and you will be left scrambling to find the alarm that alerted. The worst part is that you won't trust these pieces of garbage when a real fire is present. Also, these have consistently false alarmed even when using the OEM batteries, and they aren't covered with dust or incorrectly wired.
