Did not work for me
Like some others, I really wanted to like the CPR V5000 especially since it had so many good reviews, however it has some glaring deficiencies. I am an Electrical Engineer with 40 years of experience designing complex commercial, industrial, and defense electronics, so setting up or troubleshooting electronic devices is a snap for me. When the standard setup did not work (Caller ID was intermittently passed from the base station to my DECT wireless phones), I connected the unit using the parallel setup. Although the unit passed Caller ID through to all remote phones; when dialing out, the unit’s display went completely blank as if it was not receiving the minimum operating voltage and no outgoing number was displayed. I measured the voltages on my phone line at several locations around the house including the one attached to my base station. All of the locations met FCC Part 68/TIA-968-A nominal voltages for both on-hook and off-hook conditions. However, the deficiency that was a total deal breaker is the inability to block calls showing “Out of Area” on Caller ID while showing a local area code in the phone number. There are other brands that have this ability. In addition, having 5000 fixed numbers is only good as long as scammers and telemarketers continue to use those numbers. At some point, these numbers will become obsolete and the only way to extend the usefulness of this type of device is either to allow regular updates of threat phone numbers or provide sophisticated programming modes to cover known possible variations of Caller ID names and phone numbers. Although simple to setup and use, the CPR V5000 did not provide a robust blocking capability that met my needs and that is why I returned it.
