My daughter had never heard of these so we thought it would be a huge surprise. We were so excited! As she began to open it I prayed.... please not the gold ball, please not the gold!!! Well, guess what? We got the “rare” Michael Jackson doll with no hair! I really can't understand why LOL decided to do this, the whole draw of this series is the HAIR! Not only that, it was one of only 2 dolls that don’t color change, so you actually get less for your money. UPDATE: We ordered more for Christmas and 3 were in a gold ball. So.... 4 out of 5 we bought are gold with NO HAIR (2 Michaels, 2 Marilyns). I’m starting to think they aren’t very “rare” at all. BTW all the dolls were bought at different times, so they weren’t all from the same batch.
