Great concept, terrible execution.
The idea behind this unit is spot on. The mechanical execution in the parts that count however, leaves so much to be desired. First, the expensive ball has a sleeve through it that rotates on a shaft. No bearings, just a dry sleeve on a dry shaft. I added some Phil Wood's bicycle grease and that helped, but only marginally. The second problem with the rotation is that ball is not held specifically in place laterally so it slides side to side into the two arms of the "Y". Even after greasing it, I can only get it to spin two to three rounds using my hands to slap it. The other mechanical issue is the flexing arm. It moves as though someone took a garden hose, filled it with thick jello, and then stuck an old spring in. It is erratic and and inconsistent. All of that said, the frame and weighting are top notch, but this is not worth anywhere near the $200 mark. At $49.99, it would be very much worth considering.
