Not An Improvement on Previous Models
Bought this item to replace my ailing, older version of the HoMedics Soundspa Lullaby (owned for about a year). We've had pretty solid success getting my (now) toddler to sleep with it, and I wanted to keep something like this in our bedtime toolkit. I was pretty excited that our need for a replacement coincided with this new model, until I brought it home and realized that it wasn't the same device I'd come to appreciate at all. The previous version had a rotating image disk that could be adjusted/angled to project on a ceiling or wall. The motor moving the disk gets wonky over time, however, (this was certainly my experience), and HoMedics seems to have tried to overcome this by removing that feature. Instead, their new design features 3 sets of alternating images (though you can select different 3 themes = 9 total images) that project at slightly different locations on the wall. I could have gotten behind that - no motor to burn out, cool - except that they removed the ability to adjust the angle at which the image was projected. This lead to some comical arrangements of books under it to tilt the device to create this angle. This issue, coupled with the fact that the sound level is now digital (older model had a dial), has made it impossible to select the volume between moderate and off. So, if you have a nightstand near your child's bed that this thing can live on and point straight up, and you don't mind tinny sound/music at the louder end of the scale, this could work for you. It didn't for me - returned to the store. Would recommend either their older model (simple and effective), or if you want to get fancy, the Project Nursery projector (which, bonus, takes the same types of disks as their old model did).
