Very Deceptive Pictures, Questionable Quality, Light Duty Use Only
I cannot believe the 4 and 5 star rating this cabinet/cart is getting. First, the wood does not look like what's in their pictures. The wood you'll get will have knots. It's deception by this company to use pictures without any knots. Please see the picture of the two sides and the top from one of the cabinets I bought. The stain color in my picture isn't nearly as orange as the flash washed it out. There are other customers' pictures on the reviews that better show the true color. After looking very close at their pictures on another website that allowed you to supersize the pictures, I actually think they Photoshopped the knots out of their pictures. Second, the finish on their cabinet has a nice soft glow. It looks like a satin finish. Not yours. There is no gloss or sheen whatsoever. Also, the stain color isn't nearly as attractive or as consistently even as what you see on the website. And, I won't mention much about the overall poor quality sanding job. Third. They say "strong drawers." The drawers are held together with eight small screws in in the corners in very weak pine wood. Personally, I would have used a good 7 layer plywood for strength and stability. Additionally, when you assemble the drawers, they have you put the screws into the end grain of the wood. This is the weakest part of the wood for holding strength. Adeptus, are you really too cheap not to at least use a drawer lock router bit? These drawers will be loose and racked over time, and even more quickly if they have any significant weight in them. Fourth. The drawers are mounted on light weight plastic guides. If you put any thing heavy in these drawers, like a 500 count package of copy paper, and then you fully extend the drawer, the plastic guides will bend and potentially break. Fifth. The base isn't one solid piece of wood. It's two small pieces of wood that cross at the wheels. Over time, this will become a rickety, wobbly cabinet if it's moved around around a lot, especially if on carpet where it will be hard to roll the cabinet. Sixth. They provide dowels for assembling the top and bottom. However, the dowels are at least two or three size too small for the pre-drilled holes to do any good. Seventh. The screws they provide are fine threads. Pocket Hole 101 Assembly teaches fine threads for hard wood and coarse thread for soft wood. And finally, no where did I see mention of using glue to assemble this cabinet. Maybe I missed it. Maybe they assumed you would. Having said all that, if you happy with knotty pine furniture with a flat honey/orange finish, if you are looking for something that is strictly light duty and if you use plenty of wood glue when assembling it, then this cabinet might work for you. Just be aware you are not buying a fine piece of furniture. This is more like a utility cart. It is probably better than carts others are selling that are made of pressed wood. Before and after pictures. After pictures with some wipe-on stain/polyurethane and a couple of coats of polyurethane, plenty of glue, 10 more pocket holes, coarse screws, new dowels, reinforced drawer slides with epoxy, third board in the base. If anyone else tries to refinish one of these, I'd suggest a spray-on poly-stain. Also, I would not sand the first time. Their finish is so thin that it's too easy to cut through. Heck, just a couple of coats semi-gloss or satin clear poly would help make this cabinet look a lot better.
