Champion failed
So disappointed to have to write a negative review, but I feel like I have to. We bought this generator in July of 2018 to help power our 23' trailer when camping. It worked great for the first three trips that we went on and then suddenly stopped when we were camping three months later (October). My husband tried to start the battery manually and didn't get anything. We thought maybe the battery wasn't good, so my husband drove into town to grab a new battery. He brought it back, replaced it and the generator started up. We didn't need it at that moment, so we turned it off. He went to start it up again and the problem returned- no start. It didn't even turn over. He tried again to start it manually and nothing. We were happy to know we had a 3 year warranty on the generator and immediately contacted them when we returned home. They instructed us to give the generator to their service center in our area (TNT Lawn Equipment in Las Vegas, NV).
When we first dropped the generator off, my husband explained the problem and the service member said that they probably wouldn't honor the warranty because it was most likely something we did. ???? It was odd. For the next couple months it was a game of tag with the service center and them constantly accusing us of not giving them things like the proof of purchase (we gave this to them when we dropped off the generator) or they claimed they called us and even that they talked to one of us when nothing of the sort had happened. The service company ended up saying that they fixed the problem and that Champion wouldn't cover it. When we asked what caused the problem, they said that they did not know. Again- ???? Obviously this is all a problem with the service company, so we decided to go straight to Champion. We talked with Champion and they said that TNT claimed that we wired the battery wrong which caused the wires to fry. Again- ???? I know my husband did not wire the battery wrong (he's very mechanically inclined) and plus if he had, why would it have started after he replaced the battery? When discussing this with the company they simply claimed that they had to take the service company's word over ours. So disappointing. There was no way to PROVE anything. I tried to ask what I could have done and Christian from Champion said that we should not have changed the battery. We should have called Champion and gotten a case number and explained what happened to them. At that point THEY were suppose to contact the service provider and let them know the situation. It seems goofy to me to not replace a battery, but if you want to be covered under warranty, DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING. Make SURE they have a case number and that everything is documented on the Champion side because when push comes to shove they won't give their customers ANY credit. :( truly truly disappointing that I can't trust Champion as a customer-caring business.
