Beta At Best - Missing basic Functionality - Customer Service provides inaccurate info
Let me explain why One star in one short line… THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE PRODUCT READY TO REPLACE THE LIKES OF ADT / AT&T DIGITAL LIFE / OR VIVINT. The worst part is, I called their pre-sale support and I was advised that it could do many of the things it can’t. After paying to cancel my existing alarm, and buying the Ring equipment and approved door locks, I was told that the most basic features, Turning of Notifications for the lock, locking and unlocking the door from the main dashboard, disabling the triple repeated arm/disarm notifications, and a garage tilt sensor are not available and there is no ETA on arrival of such features. Now I am out over $1k and have become a beta tester for Ring – except there is no way to give Ring feedback about their beta product. WHO IS THIS SYSTEM GOOD FOR? If you live in an apartment with no garage and just want to protect a door or two and a couple windows (With no window blinds) and no smart home devices this will work for you. PROS: - Easy to install - No Contract - Cheap ($100 per year) CONS: 1. Not a complete system - there are no garage tilt sensors, hinge sensors, separate siren, door locks, or slim line sensors that fully work with the system. 2. The contact sensors are huge - I have blinds and the sensors prevent the blinds from closing completely 3. They claim that they are compatible with door locks, but they barely work - I bought the Yale Z-Wave door lock (Base on their supported list) and the only thing I can do is lock and unlock it You can’t A. turn of push notifications for the door lock, B. it does not trigger the alarm C. the app does not even allow me to put it on the app’s dashboard D. To lock or unlock the device, you must go to menu -> Devices -> Base Station -> scroll to the room/location -> click on the lock to be able to see the lock or unlock toggle switch 4. Although it lets you add third party sensors - the sensors don't do anything - so if you buy a third party garage tilt sensor (No they don't have their own garage sensor) it will do nothing but make a noise when it opens or closes - it will not sound the alarm, or call dispatch. 5. There is no way to disable the arm and disarm messages on the keypads - in other words - I have a base station and two keypads - when I arm or disarm the alarm, I have to hear the arm/disarm notification 3 times - once from the base station and once from each keypad - and they all announce at different times - so you get Armed... Armed... Armed 6. You cannot set programs - IE: Arm/Home at 12 AM and Disarm at 7AM 7. There is no separate siren – so if you hide the base station you won’t be able to hear the siren and if you don’t hide the base station, then someone could find it and destroy it. 8. There is no real integration with the Ring door bell – other than using the same app – in other words if someone shows up to your door and you want to let them in – you have to answer the door bell, then exit and then go to menu -> Devices -> Base Station -> scroll to the room/location -> click on the lock in order to be able to lock or unlock rather than providing an unlock button in the answer doorbell screen next to the red and green answer buttons. Missing Features - Compatibility with smart home devices such as locks, smart thermostats, smart lights, or smart garage doors - Ability to turn off notifications for smart locks - Ability to rearrange App dashboard to allow locking or unlocking of your doors - Ring Sensors such as hinge sensors, garage door tilt sensors - Ability to use third party sensors to make up for the lack of needed sensors from Ring – like a garage or gate sensor - Ability to set programs like “Lock door and Arm System at 12 AM” - Ability to adjust features like auto lock after 30 seconds on door locks - Ability to Disable chimes or mute keypads - Ability to turn of or disable Neighborhood feature which is filled with a bunch of people posting videos of minorities walking in front of their house as if they were criminals.
