GO FOR THE UPPABABY VISTA.

I have been using this Baby Jogger 2016 City Select double stroller on a near-daily basis for about 5 months now. I started using it when my toddler was 2.5 years old and my infant was a newborn. Before my infant was born, I used an Uppababy Vista that I purchased in early 2014. The version of the Vista that I have cannot be turned into a double stroller (Uppababy added that feature after 2014 - bummer!), so I had to shop for a new stroller when I was about to give birth. I am not a shill for Uppababy and have no connection to the company, but I realize now that I should have bought the newest Uppababy Vista, instead of the Baby Jogger City Select. Here is why: 1. INFANT-UNFRIENDLY: The standard seat that goes in the City Select cannot be used until a baby is six months old. I knew this before buying only because I dug around online for the instruction manual. The manufacturer should make this much clearer. The alternative to the standard seat is a basic bassinet or a larger "deluxe" pram. Two problems: (1) These are sold separately. (2) They make the stroller very ungainly and greatly limit the configurations of the second seat. The double stroller ends up being VERY long, with the second toddler seat hanging off the end like an afterthought and unable to recline. 2. TERRIBLE SHOCKS: I really took for granted how smoothly the Uppababy Vista went over the cracks and bumps of big city sidewalks until I started using the City Select. The frame of the City Select feels like flimsy plastic and is quite rickety. Every time I go over the slightest imperfection in a sidewalk or road, the City Select rattles and transmits all the movement. The shocks in this stroller are simply terrible. The result has been that it is very hard for my infant to remain asleep in the City Select. Any parent can imagine what an incredible hardship it is to work very hard to get a baby down for a nap only to have it jostled awake. 3. FLIMSY FRAME: There is a striking difference between the City Select frame and the Uppababy frame. The City Select feels hollower and cheap. This would be obnoxious under any circumstance, but considering that this cheap frame is supposed to be able to sustain two toddlers and a large basket below the seat, it is shocking. The weakness of the frame was very noticeable during the winter when strong winds had the stroller nearly tipping over with my babies in it. My Uppababy never, ever gave way like that. I had to resort to carrying my newborn in a wrap on my chest and pushing the toddler in the Uppababy. That was very tough in the dead of winter. 4. AWFUL SAFETY HARNESS: The seatbelt on the toddler seat comes apart very easily, so when my toddler is in the mood to struggle, I cannot keep him strapped in. This is an unsafe feature and I have no idea who in the world would think it is a good idea for a toddler's safety harness to be easily undone. It just pops right open as soon as he squirms. 5. NOT USER-FRIENDLY: Everything is a fight with this stroller. Trying to install the snack tray. Trying to recline the toddler seat. Trying to install the car seat (to get around using the ungainly bassinet). And on and on. In short: Look elsewhere. —————————— **06/06/2017 UPDATE So, after five months of regular (disgruntled) use supplemented by relying on my faithful Uppababy Vista on days when I don't want to deal with the City Select's many inconveniences, the City Select has given up the ghost. I folded it as usual and when I went to unfold it, it was stuck in the folded configuration. Almost as if it was jammed. Any attempt to unfold it caused it to make a clicking, cracking sound, as if it would break. I have submitted a warranty request on the City Select website and will update this post to let you all know if they give me the runaround or actually help. **06/18/2017 UPDATE I have to say that I am very impressed with the warranty. Within two days of submitting my warranty request on the website, I received an email from customer service directing me to put the frame of the stroller in any box I could find and sending me a mailing label to use. The next day, I packed up the frame and sent it back to Baby Jogger. I emailed customer service to let them know and a few hours later, I received an email letting me know they had shipped my new frame. I have received the new frame and it is working fine. The total turnaround time from the first time I contacted Baby Jogger about the damage to the stroller and the time I received the new frame was about one week. There was no runaround, no "miscommunication," no drama. I am very appreciative. None of this resolves the problems that I detailed in my original post. The new frame is still rather flimsy and ungainly compared to the Uppababy. As a result, I am keeping the review at two stars. Nonetheless, in this day and age of terrible customer service and companies that try everything to avoid upholding warranties, I think it is fair to note that Baby Jogger is a standup company in this regard.
