Meh
I've been using this product for 4 nights so far, and I've been having trouble figuring out a rating for it until this morning. First off, the name itself feels misleading. When you say artic air - I think freezing air. By itself it is a simple fan, and not a very strong fan. The instructions state to make it cooler, wet the filters inside and freeze it prior to use. Now when I do that, it creates colder air and improves upon the fan output, but it does not cause freezing temperatures. Going on feel, it drops the temperature by about 5-10 degrees. This is great, because it gives you the extra cold that some people need to fall asleep without setting the temperature of the whole house or using a ceiling fan. The problem is, as the night goes by, the ice that is being retained in the filter melts, and there is no collection plate underneath the product. So this morning I was going to wet and freeze the filter again, and I noticed a puddle of water on my wooden night stand - not happy.
The fan itself is fairly strong when placed on high and on turbo. I had it positioned on one side of the room, and when I went to the WC on the other side, I was still able to feel the air blowing towards me. The vent is about 4"x4" and one-directional. With the frozen filters, it seems to provide a slight larger cone of air, but by morning it is a square blast of air pointing at my head or back.
The humidifier tank only seems to hold enough water for less than 7 hrs as I constantly find it empty when I wake up.
The noise level reminds me of a CPU fan when it kicks on - so you are hearing that all night. It has a nightlight function which I'm not a fan of, and the various buttons on top still produce light. So if you are someone that is looking for complete darkness when you sleep, this may ruin that.
Product material and quality reminds me of an ez-bake oven. It is not necessarily cheap plastic, but I wouldn't say it is quality plastic either.
So why 2 stars versus 1? Because it helps me fall asleep. I just need it cool enough to lower my body temperature to a comfortable level to fall asleep. It works great. I can fix the water puddle issue by placing a towel or tray underneath it. Duct tape for the lights. I normally use white noise to help me fall asleep, so the fan noise does not bother me. With that said, I had the luxury of getting this for free. For others, the question becomes - do I want to spend the money to buy this? That is part of the reason I have had so much trouble reviewing this. It has flaws, and the name seems misleading; but in the end, it does what I need - cools me down long enough to fall asleep.
